Massachusetts Rush West announces Matt Johnson as DOC



Northeast Rush announced Matt Johnson as Director of Coaching for the Massachusetts Rush West region, established in Springfield, MA. In this role, Johnson will oversee all business operations, development, and strategic initiatives for Massachusetts Rush West.

“I’m incredibly excited to accept the Director of Coaching role within Massachusetts Rush West,” said Johnson. “I look forward to working with the quality staff, coaches and players in the area while growing the club and enhancing the experiences of the families involved in the club”.

A native of Holyoke, MA., Johnson is currently the Senior Associate Director of Athletics and head golf coach at American International College. Johnson has been with AIC for more than a decade and was previously head coach of the Women’s Soccer program. He inherited a team with a 1-14-1 record before turning it into a competitor in national tournaments, including three trips to the NCAA tournament, a Final Four appearance in 2013, and a national top-5 ranking.

“We are delighted to bring someone as qualified and experienced as Matt to the club,” said Northeast Rush CEO Craig Thomas. “The start of MA Rush West shows the continued and strategic growth of the club. We are extremely excited to bring the Rush identity to players and families in Western Massachusetts”

Massachusetts Rush West will be kicking off with a FREE Technical Training Clinic starting in February. Hosted at the Roots Athletic Center in East Longmeadow on Friday nights, Johnson will coach players to enhance their player development and refine their technical skills. With a reputation for developing elite youth players through a distinct pathway to the heights of competition, Rush Soccer began in 1997 in Littleton, CO., and now includes more than 100 partner clubs and a nationwide membership of more than 45,000 players and growing. Dozens of Rush alumni have soared to the heights of the game, including American internationals like Lindsey Horan (USWNT, Portland Thorns) and Christian Pulisic (USMNT, Chelsea FC), Mark McKenzie (USMNT, Philadelphia Union) and many others. Currently, there is a Rush Soccer club in almost every state across America and there are more than 40 International Rush Clubs based in Africa, North and South America, Asia and Europe.
